The idea behind Guerrera's creation was (and remains) simple: Women* are powerful. At its core, Guerrera is about expressing physical and intellectual power. Guerrera is about fighting back against sexism, objectification, and gender-based violence. Guerrera is about celebrating intellectual and physical feminism in community.
Participants learn the fundamentals of martial arts movements including Fit To Fight Defensive Options, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Grappling. Following the physical portion of the training, participants engage in social justice activism. As stated by Marthy McCaughey in her book Real Knockouts: The Physical Feminism of Women’s Self Defense: “feminism must get physical.” We agree.
*Strong women come in many forms: we embrace cis women, trans women, and gender non conforming femmes.
