Guerrera: The Feminist Fight Club
Sunday | 12pm-2pm | N-Flux
Guerrera is based on the tenants of corporeal feminism, which asserts that in addition to intellectual pursuits, feminism is asserted through the lived body. In a society that demands our bodies fit a typical mold of femininity and comport ourselves congruently, it is an act of resistance to encourage physical strength and aggression - to move our bodies in meaningful ways that bring us joy. As stated by Marthy McCaughey in her book Real Knockouts: The Physical Feminism of Women’s Self Defense: “feminism must get physical.” We agree.
Guerrera fosters communities of women* that engage in martial arts: Krav Maga, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, and kickboxing. We pair our fighting movements with social justice activism.
*badass women come in many forms (cis, trans, and nonbinary) All are welcome, so long as they’re down to hit shit.
